Why foster a rescue cat?
Fostering a rescue cat or kitten is so rewarding knowing likely you saved a life! If fostering is for you, please click the button at the bottom of the page and complete the application. Our Foster Coordinator will call you to conduct a brief interview, and once approved, you'll be added to our register of fosters.
Do you have enough time to spend with your foster?
Foster cats, especially kittens, need to spend as much quality time with people as possible. It’s important for their socialization and development and it increases their chance of being adopted.
Foster caregivers are crucial to the success of our lifesaving mission. Cats and kittens that have been rescued are in all stages of life and need foster care. Once old enough and meet all the requirements, they will then be placed for adoption in condos.
Our Rescue Partners need fosters for:
-
Kittens with a feral or adoptable mother to nurse them.
The mother cat (queen) typically takes care of the kittens feeding and elimination. Sometimes the kittens' need supplemental feeding or medical care. Your goal is to wean the kittens to solid food. At the appropriate time the kittens will receive their first vaccination.
-
Kittens without a mother who need to be bottle-fed.
These neonatal orphaned kittens are the most difficult and require the greatest skills and commitment of time. You will be assigned a Field Tech who visits and examines your fosters every two weeks and is available by phone for ongoing training and assistance.
-
Kittens that are weaned and eating on their own but need socialization.
LCPA needs fosters for:
-
Kittens or cats who are being treated for minor, curable illnesses and/or need recovery time.
You will provide a stress free, clean environment for the cat to recover from a procedure, illness, injury or sterilization. This could involve adminstering medications or dressing changes.
-
Kittens or cats that need to learn socialization skills in order to become more adoptable.
-
Adoptable kittens or cats that are simply waiting for a store condo to open.
-
Adult cats that need a quiet environment to decompress.
This time will allow you to determine their traits. Are they good with children, other cats or dogs?
