It's Cat Mating Season: What Every Cat Lover Needs to Know

From February through October — that’s nine long months — cat mating season is in full swing.
If you’ve heard loud yowling in the middle of the night, dramatic rolling on the driveway, or persistent cries that sound almost human… you’re not imagining things.
Why Is the Cat Screaming?
She’s in heat. When a female cat isn’t spayed, her body cycles into heat every 2–3 weeks during breeding season. And she’ll let everyone know about it.

Expect:
Loud, intense yowling
Rolling around dramatically
Excessive affection or agitation
Attempts to escape outside
3 a.m. serenades (and 4 a.m.… and 5 a.m.)
And here’s the part many people don’t realize:
This can start as early as 4 months old.
That tiny kitten you just adopted? She can become pregnant before she’s even fully grown.
Cat Math Is Broken
Some people think, “I’ll just let her have one litter.” But in the world of cats, one litter is never just one. A single unspayed female and her offspring can produce dozens — even hundreds — of cats over just a few years if none are sterilized. Those kittens grow up. They reproduce. Their kittens reproduce. And the cycle continues. What does that mean in real life?
More hungry kittens
More sick or injured outdoor cats
More abandoned pets
More overcrowded shelters
More euthanasia due to lack of space
The heartbreaking truth: shelters don’t euthanize because they want to — they do it because they run out of room. Overpopulation is a math problem with tragic consequences.
Be Part of the Solution
The good news? This is preventable. Veterinarians recommend cats be spayed or neutered at 4 months old. Early sterilization is safe, common, and life-saving.
Benefits include:
Fewer homeless kittens
Quieter nights
Reduced roaming and spraying
Lower risk of certain cancers and infections
Healthier, happier cats
Less chaos in your home and community
Spaying and neutering doesn’t just help your cat — it protects thousands more.

LOVE CATS? FIX CATS.
We all love kittens. They’re tiny, fluffy, irresistible.
But overpopulation isn’t cute.
Every unplanned litter adds to a crisis that rescues and shelters are struggling to manage every single day.
Spay. Neuter. Educate. Share.
Because the kittens are adorable —but the overpopulation isn’t. 🐾
